The Story Behind the Pheasant

At Sam Howard Men's Clothier, we take great pride in our logo — and for good reason. Not only is it distinctive and refined, but it also carries a story that's close to our hearts. 

The pheasant came to life after hours of brainstorming and collaboration among family, friends, our team, and a talented local artist, Chip Holton. But more than a design project, it became a tribute to someone incredibly special in my life — my grandmother.

She was my father's mother and one of the strongest, most graceful women I've ever known. Always the epitome of style, class, and composure, she was a world traveler, a master gardener, and never one to let her feathers get ruffled. I still treasure the memories of our visits on her couch, which now proudly sits in my own home. 

Since my mother's side is represented in our name, it felt only fitting to honor my father's side through our logo. With her maiden name being Byrd — and our vision to create a refined, masculine, Southern gentleman's clothier — the pheasant felt like the perfect symbol: elegant, classic, and full of character.
